A Promise

Argentina! I promise you a photo of the light on the narrow streets here, but what the title really refers to is stories. I recently had a little event showing photos and talking about them while my friend Daniel Roddick read some poetry selected to go with each photo. With all my experience in storytelling, I finally could not ignore the value of telling the story of every photo. Consider this my declaration of intent, and thus the first story:

I have been in Buenos Aires for about 8 hours now. I was lucky to run into soccer teammates in baggage claim, but none of them staying where I am. My spanish is hobbled and disjointed, and this is very much a Spanish city. Once I got the gumption up to finally enter a cafe, it took at least an hour before I was comfortable ordering. Well, the tiny meal sent me right to sleep after the 20 hours of travel, and I´ve just awoken. My fourth attempt at using the apartment phone failed (I still can´t get a dial tone and the automated voice system is also spanish only), but my spirits are still high, thanks to Luàn from the coffee shop, who took care of me and introduced herself, tellng me to ask for her when I come back, which I will. So now I am walking and found my first internet cafe (a lifeline to my English-speaking pals here), but along the way was struck by the light on the sidewalk. A light of hope.
