The Bay Area Reporter!

I got a random email last week from Jim P at the Bay Area Reporter, which is a local gay news publication. Apparently he got the press release from McKinley Art Solutions, the organization that has replaced ARTworkSF (my defunct representation/membership organization).

"Can I get a few color jpgs from the Spikes calendar? I’ll pick one to feature in the Bay Area Reporter’s Events calendar next week for their event."

Wow, cool! I know he has had some association with the San Francisco Spikes Soccer Club in the past, but I had no idea to what extent. I sent him a few choices and today I was excited to discover the newspaper at a local bookstore. And not only that, but look at their website!

THANKS JIM!

Gold's Castro Rant

I just went to my gym, Gold's Brannan, and asked them if they would display a little poster I made about the upcoming Spikes art show. They said no problem! This is great because it is a large gym with a ton of members, and a lot of the SF gay population goes through there everyday. Exactly my audience and the audience for the calendar.

But more so is the Castro Gold's, which is smack in the middle of the gay neighborhood. I also went there and asked the same thing. And they refused on the grounds that my poster mentions that the opening reception is a benefit for "No on 8" and they don't post political ads. WTF? This is not a political ad, it's for a frickin art show. But furthermore, THEY MAKE ALL THEIR MONEY OFF OF GAY PEOPLE and they are going to support the anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment? What is that all about?

If you are member of Castro Gold's, talk to the manager, BO BACHO. Tell him my story and tell him you want the poster up, that you support No on 8 and that my poster is just for a frickin art show!
